Volunteer Spotlight – February 2019

    Volunteer Spotlight:
    Fatima Moufarrige

Fatima started volunteering with The Women’s Safe House last year. She’s been such a valuable resource for our staff and residents. We’re very lucky to have her on our team and that’s why we’re recognizing her as our Spotlight Volunteer!

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

If you ask me where I am from, I won’t be able to tell you. I was born and raised in Paraguay, my parents are Brazilian, and my grandparents are Lebanese and Italian. I lived in 5 different countries and because of that, I have an urge to travel and learn about new people and cultures.

I originally came to the US to study architecture at The University of Kansas, which I did, and after a lot of sleepless nights and hard work, I graduated with a Master in Architecture. After graduating I got a job at an architecture firm here in St. Louis and I’ve been here ever since. I love what I do.

Why do you volunteer at The Women’s Safe House?

Volunteering at The Women’s Safe House was and has been such a great experience. I was able to work with people who are passionate about helping others and want to make a difference in people’s lives. It made me open my eyes to the reality of the less fortunate and want to help more.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering with us?

Being able to be part and help with the Adopt a Family program was one of the most meaningful experiences. We had so many donations and it was amazing to see and feel the goodness in people. The news can sometimes put us down, but experiencing the end of the year at The Women’s Safe House was so inspiring.

Anything else you would like to share?

I am so grateful to have been able to help out at TWSH and I would encourage everyone to reach out and help! (Chances are you’ll leave feeling AWESOME about the time you invested at TWSH!!)
