Services

Crisis Hotline

The Women's Safe House operates a 24-hour crisis intervention hotline seven days a week, 365 days a year. Trained employees and volunteers listen with compassion and care, providing referrals for shelter, legal and medical services as necessary. If you or someone you know is in need of shelter call our CRISIS HOTLINE at 314-772-4535.

Residential Services Program

Our Residential Services Program provides safe shelter and support to women and their children escaping the threat of domestic violence. In addition to a safe place to stay, we supply food, clothing and personal hygiene products. Continued support groups, along with referrals for employment, child care, education, legal assistance and housing help put victims back on their feet. We offer one of the few residential programs that accepts male children 12-17 years old.

Children's Program

The Children's Discovery Room and Resource Center are cheerful and nurturing environments where children can play or take part in a variety of structured activities. Child/Parent Advocates work one-on-one and in groups with children to help each child reach his or her potential by building self-esteem and encouraging respect of themselves and others.

Outreach/Aftercare Program

The Outreach/Aftercare Program provides continued advocacy, support and case management to those who have left our Residential Services Program. We provide assistance with employment, housing, transportation and education. We also furnish homes with items donated to The Women's Safe House and provide contact information for employment, childcare, housing, utilities and government services.

Volunteer and Community Education Program

The Volunteer and Community Education Program brings visibility to the problem of domestic violence by educating women, men, and children in hopes of changing community norms that tolerate this abuse. Trained staff and volunteers are available to speak to local churches, businesses, law enforcement agencies, schools and health care providers about domestic violence and available community resources. Our Volunteer Program is certified by the United Way of Greater St. Louis.

Why You Should Help...

  • Nearly one-third of American women will be abused by an intimate partner at some point in their lives.
  • Each day, four women are murdered by husbands or boyfriends.
  • Between 3.3 and 10 million children witness domestic violence annually.
  • Children who witness abuse are at high risk for alcohol and drug use, depression, running away, violent behavior and suicide.
  • Men who witness domestic violence as children are twice as likely to become abusers themselves.
  • Over 50% of battered women stay with the abuser because they feel they cannot support themselves and their children alone.
