When I entered into The Women’s Safe House for the second time, I was physically and emotionally ill, after dealing with the emotional ups and downs of a five year relationship with my abuser. I had been here before, but I, being in love, fell for the lies and returned home after only three days. I wanted my daughter to have both her mom and dad together—but at what cost? Of course, nothing changed, the apologies faded and the promises to never hit me again weren’t being kept. So, this time, I left. I packed up my belongings, and my daughter and I returned to The Women’s Safe House.
My daughter and I were immediately embraced. I received strong support from the staff. They listened. They showed concern. They helped me cope, and most importantly—they held me accountable to make better choices—like not going back to the abuser.
I am now in the AfterCare Program and have successfully maintained a violence free home for my daughter for five months now. I am thankful for the assistance I received during my time at The Women’s Safe House and my continued support through the AfterCare Program.
