Blue Lips Challenge 2017
October 1 - October 31
October – Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is domestic violence awareness month, a time when we bring attention to the specific impacts of domestic violence and sexually assault. Domestic violence affects 1 in 4 women in the U.S. regardless of race, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or socioeconomic status. While domestic violence knows no boundaries, it has an alarmingly high prevalence in Black, Native American, and Bi-Racial communities. Any one factor can not explain the increased rate of violence against ethnic minorities. For this reason, we must spread awareness throughout the community and show our support for these victims. We ask that during the month of October you stand in solidarity with The Women’s Safe House by participating in the Blue Lips Challenge.
Blue Lips Challenge
The Blue Lips Challenge is meant to bring awareness to the victims that come into domestic violence or sexual assault programs that have dealt with the ramifications of physical abuse. Most often blue lips signify injury, pain, and hurt. Let’s stand together to support those most disproportionately affected by domestic violence. With your help, we can make a difference.
To participate in the Blue Lips Challenge, during the month of October, take a picture of yourself wearing blue lipstick and holding the Blue Lips Challenge sign. Post the picture to social media with the hashtag #twshBlueLipsChallenge and make it your profile picture. Please be sure to tag The Women’s Safe House so we can see all of the support!
